From the region. From our own garden. From and with nature: we serve whatever is currently growing and ripe. Our dairy products come from the South Tyrolean dairy Brimi, the apple juice from the Walchhof in Barbian, and the ice cream from the Gosterhof in St. Andrä. Your happiness in a glass always comes from South Tyrol; when it comes to wine, it would be a particular indulgence to look further afield. And we make a lot of things ourselves: juices, syrups, jams and various herb pestos are created in Alex’s kitchen. It bubbles up from our very own spring, right from the heart of the mountain. It doesn’t get much purer, more refreshing or more sustainable than that, does it? Well, it does! To ensure that we and all our guests use this precious water sparingly, we’ve fitted special ‘dispensers’ in the rooms. That way, only as much water flows as is actually needed.

With wood. Our firewood comes from our own forest, and we also use locally sourced wood pellets as a renewable raw material. We also opted for local timber when building the Runa: the fragrant Swiss stone pine found in many of our rooms and suites was allowed to grow to maturity in the Runa forest.

Anything that doesn’t fit in your stomach becomes a feast for our ‘Notscha’ (i.e. piglets). Anything they don’t like is carefully sorted out. We don’t use any single-use items at all, which helps us avoid a lot of waste from the outset. We’d even rather send you your final bill by email than print it out.

Preferably gently and as quiet as a whisper. We use an electric vehicle – our ID.Buzz – to transport staff and guests. If you’re travelling by car or bike, you’ll find electric charging points for both here. And we protect the alpine pasture itself with targeted traffic-calming measures: during the summer months, driving is only permitted here before 9.30 am and after 4.30 pm. The Runa holds the South Tyrol sustainability label at Level 3, the highest level. Our measures are in line with the internationally recognised GSTC criteria and are certified by an independent body. This is underpinned by a clear strategy with a comprehensive action plan, which we review on an ongoing basis. We are supported in this by a consultant from IDM as part of the ‘Erfolgreich regional’ programme. So you can be sure that we will deliver on the promises we make here.
